Palazzo Adriano and Sosio Permian age

Excursion that combines the naturalistic beauties of the Sosio Valley, the heart of Sicani Mountain Park, with the history and culture of the territory and its geological importance, focusing in particular on the Sosio Permian age (with the presence of monoliths considered among the first lands emerged in the world) and on Palazzo Adriano, a delightful medieval village guardian of a tradition of Albanian origin that still sees the coexistence of the two religious rituals, Greek Albanian and Latin Catholic.
Starting from the Traina Agricultural Company we will walk along the “trazzera” (country road) formerly used by the shepherds for the movement of flocks within the territory, which connects the Provinces of Palermo and Agrigento with the relative villages and countryside. Surrounded by the panorama of the “heart of Sicily”, Monte Indisi, Roses Mountains, the Palazzo Adriano and Valle del Sosio Mountains Reserve, we will reach Palazzo Adriano from the upper part of the village, then crossing the maze of alleys and historic blocks of houses until reaching the main square, in front of the sixteenth-century fountain with a particular octagonal shape and of the two main churches, the symbol of the town, placed one opposite the other.
Short stop for a walking tour, with a visit to the geological and cinematographic museums inside Frederick’s castle, now home to the Albanian clothing and culture museum, and part of the ancient fortified citadel. Return to Traina’s Company retracing the course of the Sosio river through the countryside road, which historically connected most part of the campaigns of the territory.
