Scuro Mount represents an area of the Park of particular historical and naturalistic charm. In fact, it is in this place that the Sosio river is born, which crosses the Sicilian territory for over 60 km and reaches the Mediterranean Sea, where it flows between the towns of Ribera and Sciacca. Another peculiarity is its wood, one of the oldest in the area, rich in oaks, holm oaks and downy oaks, which between the end of the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s was the site of a flourishing presence of charcoal kilns and mule tracks which are still partly passable. This excursion, mainly naturalistic and very panoramic, develops on a difference in altitude of about 700 meters, reaching a height of 1,200 meters above sea level. Starting from the Traina farm and going up Indisi Mount, along the border between the territory of Prizzi and that of Palazzo Adriano, you can enjoy the wonderful panorama of Valle del Sosio Reserve and a good part of the Sicani Mountains, up to see Rocca Busambra (Ficuzza), the villages of Giuliana and Chiusa Sclafani, Monte Carcaci, Monte Cammarata.
Once near the source of the Sosio river, our staff will welcome us with a tasty picnic based on typical local products. Here, in the warmer months, it is possible to cool off with a refreshing bath in the river water, also visiting the tunnels dug into the rock to intercept the spring waters.
We continue the walk by entering the woods of Scuro Mount, retracing an old mule track already used by charcoal burners, enjoying the thrilling panorama that opens onto the dense forest, then reaching a wide valley of pastures and cereal-planted land.
The walk ends with the arrival at the Company, where it will be possible to enjoy a well-deserved moment of refreshment.
